Setting up a tank for angelfish requires careful planning to create an environment where these beautiful fish can thrive. Angelfish are relatively large and need ample space, so a tank of at least 20 gallons is recommended for a small group. However, for a pair or a larger group, a 30-55 gallon tank is ideal. The tank should be tall rather than wide, as angelfish prefer to swim vertically. A temperature range of 76-82°F (24-28°C) and a pH level between 6.8 and 7.8 are ideal for maintaining their health.

When it comes to decorating the tank, angelfish appreciate plenty of plants, both live and artificial, which provide hiding spots and mimic their natural habitat. Tall plants, like Amazon swords, are particularly suitable. Driftwood and rocks can also be added to create additional hiding spots and break up sightlines, which helps reduce aggression among the fish. The substrate can be either sand or fine gravel, and it’s important to include a good filtration system to maintain water quality. However, the water flow should be gentle, as angelfish prefer calm waters. Ensuring proper lighting is also key; a moderate level that supports plant growth without being too intense will create a comfortable environment for the angelfish. By following these guidelines, you can set up a tank that is not only visually appealing but also meets the needs of your angelfish.
